"Colorful Facts"

In 1802, Nguyen Anh united the country and called it Vietnam. Beliefs and the values of Taoism and Confucianism shape the Vietnamese view of universal order, the "cult of ancestors" and the "Mahayana" (Greater Vehicle) tradition of Buddhism is widespread.

Location: Vietnam is a tropical country in Southeast Asia. It extends from China in a long, narrow S-Curve. Lao and Cambodia lie west, the South China sea lies east.

Capital: Hanoi

Offical Language: Vietnamese (however, the people speak 3 dialects: Northern, Central, and Southern).

Geography: Tropical terrain, evergreen forest, and coastal plains.

Population: 98,721,275 (Estimated 2020)

Foods: Most Vietnamese eat chiefly fish, rice, and vegetables. Most meals include a fish sauce called nuoc mam.
