About one thousand years ago, Cambodia was the center of a great empire of the Khmer people who controlled much of the Southeast Asia mainland. Angkor, a huge ruined city that was the capital of the Khmer empire, has magnificent sculpture and architecture.
Location: In Southeast Asia, sometimes called Kampuchea.

Geography: Relatively flat land, plentiful water, and tropical climate, ideal for growing rice.
Population: 16,926,984 (Estimated 2020)
Foods: Tropical fruits, aromatic rice/sticky, baguette with eggs, pate and sardines, a soup called samlor, popular dish called amok. Coconut milk is used in many dishes and desserts.
